PORTLAND, Ore. — The Obama administration is asking a federal appeals court to delay a warrantless-wiretapping case involving a former Islamic charity.

A ruling could come as early as Friday in the legal fight over the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation chapter in Oregon.

Lawyers for the foundation say its Ashland chapter was the target of illegal electronic surveillance. They have already won several rounds in court.

But in a motion filed Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder asked for a delay, arguing the case could reveal classified information.
