Let this be the final act in the ongoing Brandon Marshall drama.
Even though charges against the Broncos wide receiver and his fiancee were dropped Monday morning after they were arrested for a physical altercation outside their Atlanta apartment, new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels should mince no words as he lays down the law in apountry.
Second chances, depending on the scenario, are available, but character counts.
This was Marshall’s fourth arrest in three years. Strike four, you’re out.
Marshall was banned from last year’s season opener following police-related incidents with his former girlfriend. His suspension was originally three games, but Marshall promised to clean up his act and it was reduced to one game and a fine.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell can still suspend Marshall, even though Sunday’s case was dismissed when the couple refused to testify against each other.
The Broncos, a mediocre bunch in recent years, need players they can count on, not players who appear in police blotters as often as they do ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
Former coach Mike Shanahan, as coaches often do, looked the other way far too often in recent years.
McDaniels can’t afford to do so in this, his first test. He should show Marshall the door.
