Renaming Lake Ontario will lead to shame

I believe the acronym HOMES is still being used with school kids, for memorizing the names of the Great Lakes. If Trump goes through with his plan to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, I suppose school kids can learn SHAME, instead. That would be a pretty accurate reflection of Trump’s vindictiveness.

Really? The president started, and promptly lost, his war with Iran. He broke the country’s trade relations with Canada and Mexico. He has undercut alliances with NATO and South Korea. He presides over a series of detention centers where people are held without process. He has authorized the killings of more than 200 people in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
Despite this administration’s efforts to recast the country as a lawless state, The Post decided to devote nearly one-half page to the presidentap juvenile tweet that he might rename a lake. Worse, renaming a body of water merely retreads an earlier inanity of purportedly renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Worse still, the article reports the inaccurate thoughts of a random New York fisherman, who thinks Canada imposes unfair tariffs on dairy products. The article does not report that the fisherman, spouting administration talking points, is simply wrong about tariffs.
It is incomprehensible that The Post inflates trivial trolling into a substantial news story.

Legislation establishing the U.S. Board on Geographic Names does not authorize the president to unilaterally change the name of a feature under the purview of the Board. The board certifies existing domestic and foreign names and approves name changes for use by the federal government, in effect standardizing public use as well. The Secretary of the Interior may intervene if the board unduly delays its decision on a name change proposal. The same legislation does enable Congress, through legislation, to change a name, but not the president.

Trump meddles with the economy again

Trump’s beef import plan is just another of his ridiculous and counterproductive steps to mess with the economy. Normally ranchers and the beef industry would work to increase their production in response, thanks to capitalism. But how can any industry plan and respond with the wavering tariffs and an uncertain future?
Note to our Republican Congress: You own this, just like you own the costly stupid war in Iran, the economic mess, the unwarranted treatment of Canada, an out-of-control and cruel ICE, cuts in health care, crushing debt, the corrupt administration, and a lot more. Do your job and rein in this lunatic Trump administration as well as his vanity naming-binge.

How could the court allow Trump’s mail ballot plan

Approval of Trump’s plan to screen mail ballots against a federal list of voters — has the Supreme Court thoroughly lost its mind? There should be no party preference expressed by any member. We can no longer trust the Court to do whatap best for the country. Itap a crying shame and is leading the country farther down a dark street to nowhere.
