GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Two people killed in a suspected drunken driving crash over the weekend have been identified as a mother and daughter from Grand Junction.
The Mesa County coroner’s office says 21-year-old Shandi Boetel and her 6-month-old daughter, Natalia Casiano, died after the pickup Boetel was driving was struck by a car at a Grand Junction intersection at about 1 a.m. Saturday. The girl’s father, Luis Casiano, was critically injured.
Officials say the mother and daughter died from multiple blunt force injuries.
Police arrested 20-year-old Derrick Maxfield of Parachute on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment and running a red light.
He’s being held on $100,000 bond.
