Denver police Officer Ed Ash, who shot and killed a motorist during a traffic stop for speeding last week, was cleared by the department Wednesday to return to his normal duties.

Spokesman Lt. Matt Murray said it is Ash’s decision whether he feels fit to return to duty, but the department has approved his return.

Ash fired at least seven bullets through the windshield of a car driven by Davlon Reagor, 38, who was wanted for parole violation.

Reagor died at the scene Thursday night near East Fifth Avenue and Lafayette Street.

Police have refused to divulge any details about the shooting, including where the speeding infraction occurred.
