The federal $787 billion recovery law sets aside billions to help people find jobs or avoid catastrophe while they’re looking for work. Some highlights from the law:

— $25 billion nationally to help the jobless afford health insurance premiums for nine months

— $248 million for Colorado for extended unemployment benefits

— $85 million for Colorado for bigger unemployment checks

— Up to $42 million for updating computer systems to distribute unemployment benefits
