The Denver Newspaper Agency has hired Alison Kane as senior vice president of interactive media.

Kane will work on building readership and revenue on websites including , , and .

The Denver Newspaper Agency operates circulation, advertising and other business functions of The Denver Post.

Kane has 25 years’ experience in strategic marketing and technology with an emphasis in digital media. She previously was executive vice president at Denver-based Local Matters, a technology solutions and Internet media firm.

Kane said consolidation in the newspaper industry and economic weakness “create both a perfect storm and a perfect opportunity” to help metro businesses and consumers connect through new-media vehicles.

Gerald Grilly, president and chief executive of the Denver Newspaper Agency, said Kane’s background is “particularly well-suited to the challenges facing our industry as it transforms its business model during these challenging economic times.”

Kane has an undergraduate business degree from the University of Denver and advanced business degrees from Purdue and Budapest universities.
