LEFT WINGER, 42, FOR LIGHTNING GOES UNCLAIMED

TAMPA, Fla. — Gary Roberts’ NHL career appears to be over after the 42-year-old left winger went unclaimed on waivers.

Canadian sports network TSN reported Friday that Roberts, already set to retire at the end of the season, will not play another game for the Lightning.

Roberts retired in 1996 because of a chronic neck injury but returned the following season. A Stanley Cup winner with Calgary in 1989, he has 438 goals, 471 assists and 2,560 penalty minutes in 1,224 career games with the Flames, Carolina, Toronto, Florida, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. He has three goals and four assists in 30 games this season.

Flyers nix McLaren trade

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Flyers nullified their trade for Kyle McLaren, sending the defenseman back to the Sharks after he failed a physical because of a hand injury.

San Jose traded the 12-year NHL veteran to Philadelphia on Wednesday for a sixth- round pick in the upcoming draft.

Meanwhile, Flyers center Danny Briere, who reinjured his groin during Thursday’s loss to the Flames, will miss today’s game against Nashville, although he could play Tuesday against Buffalo.

“There’s a big relief,” Briere said.

NEW YORK — The first two games of the Stanley Cup Finals this year will be on NBC, giving the league’s broadcast partner a crack at weekend audiences.

Versus will show the next two, while the final three, if necessary, will be on NBC.
