Who is that masked man?
“The Phantom of the Opera,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s romantic musical, has weathered surprisingly well. Maybe it’s the music, or the sets, or the enduring creepiness of that guy in the Freddy Krueger mask. Catch it at 8 tonight (or through March 22) at the DCPA. Tickets start at $20.
At the movies
Even heroes get the blues
What better way to feel upbeat about the current state of affairs than to see the comic-book-based “Watchmen.” This paranoid, dark ride features baggage-carrying superheroes grappling with the alienated state of the human condition circa 1985. Turns out that bad times are relative. Rated R. Visit denverpost .
A girl and her dog
In “Wendy and Lucy,” Michelle Williams drabs herself up as a penniless drifter heading through the Pacific Northwest for a job in an Alaska fish cannery. She doesn’t make it to the cannery, but something fishy awaits anyway. It’s showing at the Chez Artiste. Rated R.

Great Scott Thomas
New on video this week, “I’ve Loved You So Long” features Kristen Scott Thomas as a doctor just out of prison. Searching for human connection, she moves in with her younger sister and forges a new life. Might sound depressing, but this one’s worth it. Rated PG-13.
In case you missed it…
“A Moment in History: The Inauguration of Barack Obama” presents major moments from the recent inauguration. This DVD includes commentary, Aretha Franklin’s performance of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” the big speech — the whole shebang.
