DENVER—A new report recommends Newmont Mining redouble efforts to work with communities around the world where it mines gold.

The recommendations, released Monday, ask the world’s second-largest gold miner to develop policies to better address grievances. It also suggests executives make more of an effort to engage residents in the process.

Newmont commissioned the report in response to shareholder concerns about labor and environmental conflicts.

Newmont Chief Executive Richard O’Brien says the company will review the recommendations and make changes as needed.

Denver-based Newmont’s stock fell 84 cents or 2.2 percent to $38.06 in early trading.
