The first day of the NCAA skiing championships — which include defending and 19-time national champion Denver and 17-time winner Colorado — was postponed Wednesday in Bethel, Maine, because of harsh weather. It is the first known time in 56 years a race at the national meet was postponed. The giant slalom was rescheduled for today, at Sunday River Ski Resort, with the rest of the alpine and nordic events running through Saturday.

The NCAA wrestling committee awarded Northern Colorado junior Tony Mustari an at-large bid to the Division I national championship meet in St. Louis, which begins March 19.

Mustari joins Wyoming’s Michael Martinez in the 125-pound division. Bobby Moyer of Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club won the boys slalom, and Julia Cooper of Steamboat Springs won the girls event at the USSA Rocky/Central J3 Junior Olympics in Vail. Katharine Irwin and Celine Guilmineau of Ski Club Vail were second and third, respectively, among the girls.
