PUEBLO, Colo.—Authorities say a suspect who was shot and killed by Pueblo police was believed to be armed and said he wouldn’t be taken alive.
Fifty-four-year-old David Leroy Wiggs of Florence was killed Wednesday. He was wanted on suspicion of sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Authorities began hunting for Wiggs after family members told police he had threatened to commit suicide and had said he was willing to fight officers.
Police say they found no weapon on Wiggs but believe he had been armed. They say they found shell casings in his car and are searching for a gun.
An autopsy is planned.
Police say two officers were placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Their names haven’t been released.
