A 65-year-old Durango woman who was left brain-damaged by the 1993 World Trade Center bombing was awarded $5.46 million by a New York City jury Thursday.
Linda Nash was in the basement parking garage where Islamic extremists detonated a bomb.
The Manhattan Supreme Court jury upheld a 2005 lower-court decision that held the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey liable, citing negligence in its security.
Nash’s attorney, Louis Mangone, says interest accrued since the original decision 3 1/2 years ago will make the final award $7.1 million.
Nash, who now raises Icelandic horses with her husband, Jim McLaughlin, on a small ranch near Durango, was a benefits and compensation specialist in an accounting firm in the World Trade Center, but her injuries derailed her life and career, Mangone argued.
