“Golf in Scotland: A Travel-Planning Guide With Profiles of 68 Great Courses” ($24.95, WF Publishing) is the 2009, and third, edition of Denverite and professional travel planner Allan McAllister Ferguson’s well-researched labor of love. I don’t golf, but I have been a fan of Scotland for other reasonsthe gorgeous landscape, welcoming people, great hiking, history and architecture — since 1989, the first of several visits, and if Ferguson’s golf recommendations and insider tips are as good as the ones he offers up for lodging, getting around, itineraries and saving money, well, then this is a valuable guide, indeed. I particularly like his conversational style, arguments against the need for using a tour, and step-by-step guidelines for when and where to go.
