FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Kimmy Hansen scored 30 points and Estes Park overcame a slow start to defeat St. Mary’s 52-42 in the Class 3A girls semifinals Friday.

Hansen was 12-for-15 from the free-throw line. Kyra Stark contributed eight points for Estes Park (20-6), a 45-44 winner over St. Mary’s, 45-44, earlier in the year.

Jenny Nagl had 14 points to lead St. Mary’s (22-4). St. Mary’s shot only 25 percent from the field and had 19 turnovers.

St. Mary’s appeared in control in building a 19-4 lead in the first quarter. Estes Park regrouped and outscored St. Mary’s 18-3 and had tied the game at 22-22 on two free throws by Hansen.

Christina Whitelaw tied the game at 26 for St. Mary’s two minutes into the third quarter, but Hansen and Stark broke the tie with baskets on layups to pull Estes Park ahead 30-26. Hansen extended the lead to 34-27 with a layup and free throw in the last 1:34 of the third quarter.

Estes Park moved further ahead, 40-29, in the fourth quarter on Hansen’s basket and free throw with 5:09 left. Nagl’s jumper with 46 seconds remaining got St. Mary’s as close as 47-40.
