Ballistics tests have revealed that a former firefighter from Golden never fired a shot before he was wounded by sheriff’s deputies in Florida last week, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported Thursday.
Ballistic analysis determined the bullet that dented a deputy’s shield was fired by another officer, the paper reported.
The Palm Beach County deputies previously had said Dallas Adkins Jr., 59, fired a shot from a rifle as he stepped from his condominium. Neighbors called authorities about 11:30 p.m. March 3 to report Adkins was armed and threatening suicide.
Thursday’s announcement resulted in the charge against Adkins being reduced from attempted murder to aggravated assault. Adkins remains at Delray Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Howard Pankratz, The Denver Post
