LINCOLN, Neb.—With freshman Connor Beranek scoring eight of his 21 points in the first quarter, Ravenna got off to a fast start on its way to a 61-53 victory over Axtell in the Class C2 semifinals Friday at the boys state tournament.

The Blue Jays (22-5) got out to a 23-12 lead, then turned back an Axtell comeback bid that saw the Wildcats get within 3 points in the middle of the fourth quarter. Ravenna plays Freeman (25-1) for the title Saturday.

Adam Mingus added 13 points, John Klosterman 11 and Eric Johnson 10 for the Ravenna, which won the C2 girls championship last weekend.

Spencer Fecht had all 12 of his points in the second half for Axtell, which also got 11 from Bryce Runge and 10 from Nick Robison 10.
