GREELEY, Colo.—Baily McFerren scored seven of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, helping Kim hold off upset-minded Pawnee for a 55-49 win in the 1A girls state semifinals Friday night.
Danielle Lewis added 13 points for third-seeded Kim, which nearly blew a 12-point fourth-quarter lead. The Mustangs (24-1) will face No. 1 McClave for the state title Saturday.
Freshman Adele Cass hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, while her sister Janelle added 13 points for Pawnee (19-7).
Kim scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to build a 47-35 lead and still led by seven with a minute left in the game before Pawnee made a final rally.
Adele Cass hit a 3-pointer with 37.1 seconds to go, pulling Pawnee to 51-49, but Kim sealed the game when McFerren made the first of two free throws and Haley Sheldon scored on a putback when McFerren missed the second.
Ahead by seven at halftime, Kim threatened to blow the game open before Pawnee closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to pull to 39-35 heading to the fourth.
Pawnee, which upset No. 2 seed Deer Trail on Thursday, got off to a good start, taking a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Kim turned up the pressure and held Pawnee without a field goal in the second quarter.
Lewis outscored Pawnee by herself in the second. She had nine points to help Kim take a 26-19 halftime lead. Pawnee got all its points in the quarter from the free throw line, hitting 5-of-6 from the stripe.
