DORAL, Fla. — Phil Mickelson won the CA Championship on Sunday for his second victory in the past month.
He closed with a 3-under-par 69 to outlast Nick Watney in a spirited duel and rose to No. 2 in the world ranking behind Tiger Woods.
Mickelson had to be treated at a local hospital Saturday night for heat exhaustion and a mild case of dehydration, but he had enough strength to win his first World Golf Championship title.
Watney shot a 70 and was one shot behind. Mickelson finished at 19-under 269 for his 36th victory, putting him in a tie for 12th on the PGA Tour’s career list.
• PGA Tour veteran Michael Bradley won the Puerto Rico Open in Rio Grande by one shot after sinking an 11-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
Bradley, with a 2-under 70, finished at 14-under to beat Jason Day (71) and Brett Quigley (67).
• Dan Forsman shot a 6-under 66 and won the AT&T Champions Classic in Santa Clarita, Calif., for his first victory in 12 Champions Tour starts, overcoming a five- stroke deficit in regulation and beating Don Pooley (70) with a birdie on the first extra hole.
Jay Haas shot a 70 and finished a stroke back.
Tasca gets in win column
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Bob Tasca raced to his first career funny car victory at the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals.
Larry Dixon (top fuel), Jason Line (pro stock) and Hector Arana (pro stock motorcycle) won their respective divisions.
Tasca, in his second year in NHRA, earned his first No. 1 qualifying position Saturday and ran strong all weekend.
Mackey maintains his lead
UNALAKLEET, Alaska — Lance Mackey was first to arrive Sunday in the coastal town of Unalakleet, but a pack of mushers, including two former champions, were trying to catch him in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Mackey pulled into the town about 260 miles from the finish line in Nome shortly after 3 p.m.
Sanchez holds off Contador
NICE, France — Luis-Leon Sanchez won the Paris-Nice cycling race, overcoming two punctures and a late challenge by Alberto Contador in a final stage won by Antonio Colom.
• Andreas Kloden has taken the overall lead in the Tirreno-Adriatico race by winning the fifth stage, an 18-mile time trial from Loreto to Macerata in Italy.
