A Fort Collins startup that plans to mass-produce cheaper solar panels is changing its name to Abound Solar today.

Formerly called AVA Solar, the company said the new name will demonstrate its “commitment to providing an abundance of low-cost solar panels” around the globe.

“Our new brand identity represents a change in the company’s look, as well as our focus,” said Pascal Noronha, chief executive of Abound Solar.

The company’s solar panels are based on production technology spun out from research done at Colorado State University over 15 years.

Abound Solar says its low-cost manufacturing process will enable customers to generate solar power at the same cost as coal- or natural-gas-

generated electricity.

“This technical success, coupled with support from the U.S. Department of Energy and approximately $150 million of private investment, has enabled the company to create nearly 200 local jobs,” the company stated in a news release, “and build a (manufacturing facility) in Longmont.”
