A scorned Denver woman, who police say was working as an escort, is in jail, accused of trying to have her ex-husband, a Pitkin County prosecutor, killed.

Elinor Dvir, 36, was arrested Sunday and is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of solicitation to commit murder.

On Saturday, Dvir allegedly offered an undercover police officer posing as a hit man $2,000 to kill her former husband, Rich ard Nedlin, court records say.

Nedlin is a deputy district attorney who lives and works in Aspen.

Dvir told the officer that she wanted the “job” to look like an accident so it wouldn’t be traced to her, according to an arrest affidavit.

“If the body disappeared, that’s fine, but I’d prefer it to look like an accident, like stuff his body with cocaine, like an overdose,” Dvir said, according to the affidavit. “It’s got to be done in a very smart way. I just don’t want it to backfire on me.”

The plot was brought to the attention of authorities by a confidential police informant to whom Dvir initially made the murder-for-hire proposal, the affidavit said.

The informant contacted police, who started an undercover investigation.

The offer to “take out” Nedlin was tape-recorded by the undercover officer, according to the affidavit.

Dvir and Nedlin are in the midst of a custody battle over their child, according to court records, and a hearing was scheduled for today.

“The only way to get my daughter back is to get rid of (him),” Dvir told the undercover officer.

The informant told police that Dvir worked as an escort who advertised on Craigslist under the name “Capri.” They met through the Denver Metro VIP Escort Service, but she had been fired from the service for not turning in all her receipts, the affidavit said.

Dvir also had told the informant that she had been arrested and served 18 months in jail for “importing diamonds from Israel.”

She told the informant that the jail term was another reason why she was angry at her ex-husband and wanted him “taken out,” according to court documents.

The affidavit said she offered “stones” in lieu of cash as payment for the hit.

Dvir appeared in court in Golden on Monday. She is being held on $100,000 bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
