KEARNEY, Neb.—The Kearney Hub is reporting that Las Vegas businessman Kirk Brooks has signed a letter of intent to buy the FirstTier Event Center in Kearney and the Tri-City Storm hockey team.
Brooks told the Kearney Hub in a copyright story that he hopes to finish the deal within 30 days. No terms were announced.
The city no longer is negotiating with owner Joel Wiens of Cheyenne, Wyo., to buy the 5,000-seat arena.
The city had been planning to pay between $2 million and $3 million for the arena. The team was not included in that proposed deal.
City Manager Mike Morgan said the city prefers the arena be owned by a private party.
