Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong will return to Colorado for the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race Aug. 15, organizers said.

Armstrong last year finished second behind Gunnison’s David Wiens, who set a course record in 6 hours, 45 minutes and 45 seconds. The race, a 100-mile competition that starts at 10,500 feet and climbs to more than 14,000 feet, is renowned as one of the country’s most demanding bike competitions. Organizers said former Tour de France champion Floyd Landis is mulling a return to the Leadville Trail since last competing in the race in 2007.

Mammoth’s Murray out.

Colorado Mammoth all-star defenseman Bruce Murray is sidelined indefinitely with a dislocated kneecap, which he suffered during the scramble for the opening faceoff in Saturday’s 14-11 win over San Jose.

Also, the National Lacrosse League trading deadline expired Tuesday afternoon with the Mammoth standing pat, in part because former all-star Dan Carey is expected to return Saturday at Calgary. Carey has missed the last five games with what appeared to be post-concussion symptoms, but has recently been rediagnosed with a treatable optical nerve injury. CU runner Barringer honored.

The U.S. Track and Field coaches association named University of Colorado runner Jenny Barringer its female track athlete of the year. In winning the 3,000-meter title at the NCAA indoor championships Saturday, Barringer set a collegiate record in the event, finishing in 8 minutes, 42.03 seconds. It is the fourth-fastest time in the world this season and the top American time.
