DENVER—An 11-month-old girl has died of her injuries after being struck by her grandfather’s vehicle as he backed out of a Grand Junction driveway.
Mesa County Coroner Dean Havlik says Paytonn Elizabeth Garlick died Monday of head injuries.
Authorities say she was hit Saturday night by 50-year-old Anthony Woods, who had been working on his vehicle in a garage at a Grand Junction home.
The Colorado State Patrol says Woods was backing the vehicle out of the garage when the child walked into its path. The girl was unconscious and not breathing when emergency workers arrived.
State Patrol Sgt. John Hahn says Woods was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, vehicular assault and careless driving resulting in injury.
