DENVER—Prosecutors have dismissed an interference charge against a protester who was pushed to the ground and called a derisive name by an officer during the Democratic National Convention in Denver last summer.
Alicia Forrest of Los Angeles was dressed in pink and wearing a tiara when Denver police officer Scott Stewart knocked her to the ground with his baton and said, “Back it up, b—-.” A Rocky Mountain News photographer videotaped the incident.
Prosecutors said Forrest grabbed the baton and pushed it away before Stewart pushed her. Stewart was not charged and remains on the job.
Court records show the case against Forrest was dismissed Wednesday.
“Fortunately, and despite the humiliation, her First Amendment rights stood strong against a thuggish police officer,” said Forrest’s attorney, Daniel Recht.
Prosecutors didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
Forrest is considering filing a lawsuit.
