FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A northern Colorado wolf sanctuary won’t have to tear down fences for four new animal enclosures if it pays $82.50 for a building permit.

The sanctuary, called Wolves Offered Life and Friendship or WOLF, was warned by Larimer County last month it would have to tear down the fences or face possible closure.

County spokeswoman Deni La Rue said Tuesday the sanctuary always had the option of paying for a permit, but an earlier letter from the county didn’t make that clear.

The group built the 2-acre enclosures at its sanctuary in Rist Canyon about 20 miles northwest of Fort Collins.

The sanctuary cares for 30 wolves or wolf-dog hybrids.
