Firefighters spent several hours this morning extinguishing smoldering attic insulation in a Greeley house that had been converted into business offices.
Firefighters from Greeley’s Union Colony Fire Rescue Authority were called to the building in north Greeley at 510 N. 11th Ave. shortly after 9 a.m., according to Division Chief Dale Lyman.
The burning attic insulation appeared to have been ignited by energized electrical wires in the attic, Lyman said in a news release.
Xcel Energy was called to shut off the power at a nearby utility pole.
Because of the fire’s location in the attic, and because of the electrical wires, the blaze was difficult to extinguish, said Lyman.
No firefighters or citizens were injured.
No damage estimate has been made and the cause of the fire is still under investigation although an electrical problem is suspected, said the division chief.
