GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—An evacuation order has been lifted for about 20 homes in a Grand Junction subdivision as fire crews mop up a brush fire that burned about 40 acres.

Authorities ordered residents of the Preserve subdivision to evacuate and closed portions of a road Wednesday afternoon after a controlled burn got out of control.

The Mesa County Communications Officers’ Association says several fences were burned, but no structures were damaged.

The association also says a firefighter suffered minor burns but was able to remain on the scene. No other injuries were reported.

More than 60 people from multiple agencies, including the Grand Junction Fire Department and Mesa County Wildland Fire Team, helped fight the blaze.
