LAKEWOOD — One of the biggest sporting events to hit Colorado this year is underway in Lakewood.

More than 1,000 male and female athletes from all over the country have come to Colorado to compete in the Championships for the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.

This is the first time the NWBA has hosted its national championships for six different divisions in one city. The tournament started Wednesday and will continue through Sunday at four locations.

The schedule for the six divisions is as follows:

  •  Today: Tournament Games at Gold Crown Field House from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  •  Tomorrow: Tournament Games at Gold Crown Field House, Metro State College of Denver, Craig Hospital from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  •  Friday: Tournament Games at Gold Crown Field House, Metro State College, Craig Hospital, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Women’s Division Championship at 2:30 p.m. at Metro State College
  •  Saturday: Championship Game Schedule (All Games at Gold Crown Field House): 12:45 p.m.: Division III Championship Game 2:30 p.m.: JV Division Championship Game 4:15 p.m.: Varsity Division Championship Game 6 p.m.: Champions Division Championship Game
  •  Sunday: Prep Division Tournament Games at Whitlock Recreation Center from 8:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. 1:30 P.M.: Prep Division Championship Game at Whitlock Recreation Center
