Xcel Energy today said customers’ natural-gas bills in April are expected to decline 41 to 45 percent from this month and 36 to 37 percent from April 2008 because of falling gas prices and lower consumption.

Xcel asked the Colorado Public Utilities Commission for permission to decrease gas prices for residential and small-business customers by 31 percent next month from this month’s price.

Residential bills would decrease to $41.15 from $69.67 this month. Typical April 2008 bills were $63.86.

Typical small-business customer bills would decrease to $183.37 from this month’s $334.54. Typical April 2008 bills were $290.40.
