A 62-year-old man was arrested today on suspicion of fatally stabbing a woman in Aurora, police said.
An early morning argument may have led to the stabbing Sunday near 1650 Paris St., Aurora police said.
The victim in the case was identified by Aurora police as 61-year-old Catherine Bermudez.
Zimmeri Claudius McNeal is being held without bail at the Adams County Jail on suspicion of homicide and aggravated robbery, police said.
McNeal has a lengthy arrest record in Colorado starting in 1973 and including a 1997 arrest in Aurora for attempted homicide, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
A fight between the two attracted police attention at about 3:10 a.m. Sunday, when the man told officers he had been accosted by other men at a nearby intersection.
Police left to search for evidence of that attack. They returned to find the man near the woman’s body. She had been stabbed, possibly many times.
Investigators are still trying to establish a relationship between the two, as well as a motive in the fatal attack.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Matt Fyles at 303-739-6067.
