After leading his team to Colorado’s Class 5A boys basketball title, Regis’ Bud Thomas has been named the Gatorade state player of the year. The junior forward paced the Raiders’ 26-2 record with their first league (Continental) title of any kind in 30 years, as well as their first state championship. Thomas averaged 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds, underlining his versatile inside-outside presence, and saved the Raiders’ season in the semifinals, when he made a 40-footer at the end of regulation. Thomas, who has a 3.51 grade-point average, also volunteers time for community service.
