Nearly 10,000 Southwest Airlines flight attendants began voting Thursday on a proposed four-year contract that includes raises, an increase in 401(k) contributions and improvements in leave and job security.
The airline and Transport Workers Union Local 556 have reached a tentative agreement on the contract, and the union’s executive board has given its approval.
The union will release results of the ratification vote at the end of May.
With this proposal, Southwest has reached at least tentative contract settlements with major work groups including pilots, mechanics and ground workers represented by Transport Workers Union Local 555.
Customer service and reservations workers represented by the International Association of Machinists are still in talks.
