DENVER—A Colorado Senate committee vote on a proposed new teacher tracking system has been snowed out.

The Education Committee planned to vote on the proposal Thursday but the Legislature shut down early as a powerful spring storm dumped heavy snow on Denver and much of the rest of Colorado.

At issue is a plan to set up a way to track teachers and principals as they move from school to school, and to see how their students perform. Some lawmakers say schools should be able to use the data to possibly sanction teachers.

The Colorado Education Association backs the system but not sanctions. It says the state has a bad track record of using data to unfairly compare schools without taking differences into account.
