Shares of Level 3 Communications Inc., an operator of phone networks, jumped the most since January on the Nasdaq after signaling that its financial condition is improving and that it may consider new acquisitions.

The Broomfield company will continue to reduce network costs and operating expenses, according to a regulatory filing Friday. Level 3 cut capital spending 30 percent to $107 million in the fourth quarter.

It rose 16 cents, or 20 percent, to 95 cents.
