Southbound lanes of U.S. 285 near Turkey Creek Road southwest of Denver were closed Friday morning after a vehicle slammed into a firetruck that had responded to an earlier accident.
The crash involving the West Metro Fire Protection District engine happened about 11:45 a.m., said fire department spokeswoman Cindy Matthews.
The engine was parked on the highway to cover for an ambulance responding to an accident when it was hit, Matthews said.
No firefighters were injured. Two people in the sport utility vehicle that hit the engine were injured, and medical helicopters were called.
