About a year ago, Marcos Martinez and his wife, Melisa, moved from West 50th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard in Denver to West 65th Avenue and Lowell in Westminster shortly after their second child was born.

They needed a bigger home, and they either weren’t available in northwest Denver or were too expensive, he said.

“The houses in Denver are chic and they’re really cool, but when you have a growing family, you need more space,” Martinez said.

Now, his wife is pregnant with their third child.

The Martinezes are far from alone among Latinos in their relocation to the suburbs. The percentage of Latino births in south Westminster has risen from 58 percent to 77 percent since 2000.
