The driver who died this morning in a car crash south of East 151st Avenue and Colorado Boulevard in Adams County was the campus supervisor at Horizon High School in Thornton.

Mary L. Suiter, 58, of Longmont was known to the students and the faculty, said Janelle Albertson, spokeswoman for the Adams 12 Five-Star School District. Suiter had been at Horizon since 1995.

“She had lots of involvement with the kids,” said Albertson. She walked the hallways, helped kids find their way to classes and maintained security on the Horizon campus.

“It’s having a huge impact on the students and school alike,” said Albertson. She said that a crisis counseling team has been brought in. Teachers are asking students to write what Suiter meant to them and how her loss has impacted them.

Albertson said that the students also are creating a banner in Suiter’s memory.

She added that Suiter took very seriously maintaining an atmosphere at the school where the students were safe and could learn without interference.
