Denver’s Emiko Torito finished second to six-time national champion Shannon Bahrke of Tahoe City, Calif., in dual moguls competition at the 2009 Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships in Squaw Valley, Calif. Michelle Roark of Denver finished third and Eliza Outtrim of Steamboat fourth. Jeremy Cota of Steamboat was fourth among the men.
• On Friday, Roark locked up the first national title of her career in the individual moguls competition. Joe Discoe of Ridgway finished third among the men.
• Walter Wood of Evergreen finished second to David Wise of Reno, Nev., in men’s halfpipe competition at the U.S. Freestyle Championships on Saturday.
• Alice McKennis of Glenwood Springs claimed the NorAm Series titles in downhill and super-G last weekend at Whiteface Mountain, N.Y. As a result, McKennis earns World Cup starts in those disciplines next season.
Brewing up fun.
New Belgium Brewing is encouraging people to bare their alter ego, don a downhill costume and hit the slopes Saturday for the Loveland Scavenger Hunt at Loveland Ski Area. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with the scavenger hunt running from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $10 with all proceeds donated to the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, which focuses on collaborations among nonprofits, businesses, governments and academia to create a sustainable world.
