CARTHAGE, N.C. — The nurse’s assistant who may have been the target of a nursing-home rampage survived by hiding inside a locked area, her mother said Tuesday.
Margaret Neal said her daughter Wanda is “devastated” by the alleged actions of estranged husband Robert Stewart, who authorities say killed seven residents and a nurse Sunday.
Neal said her daughter was behind passcode-protected doors at Pinelake Health and Rehab.
Stewart remains in a prison hospital.
