It’s still too frigid outdoors to get serious about planting the herbs for the season, so we picked up Rosemary Gladstar’s “Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health,” ( Storey Publishing, $16.95) instead. The book spans the interest spectrum from hard-core herbalist to beginning gardener.

Become a rock-garden star
All those sweet little crocuses peeking up through the snow left us wanting more for the rock garden and marking the annual Rocky Mountain Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society sale on the calendar. Bring your questions. Experts will be on hand to help you with your ideas and questions. The sale runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 18 at Hudson Gardens, 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton. Want to join the society? Show up between 3 and 8 p.m. April 17, pay $10 at the door, and you’ll be rewarded with the chance to shop the sale early.
