ALAMOSA, Colo.—Organizers of the new Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area in southern Colorado are planning how to spend the $10 million the area will receive as part of a public lands bill signed by President Obama Monday.
The Heritage Area Steering Committee said Wednesday it’s preparing a management plan to preserve and conserve the area over parts of Alamosa, Conejos and Costilla counties.
Dennis Lopez, president of the committee, says the plan will include appointing a 13-member board of directors, conducting fundraisers to hire a director and seeking input from community members about future projects.
Lopez says projects will be designed to attract recreational tourists interested in skiing and hunting and cultural heritage tourists interested in historical sites.
