DENVER—Colorado regulators have ordered two title insurance companies and some of their agents to refund a total of more than $393,000 to about 3,500 people.
The Division of Insurance said Thursday it ordered the refunds from Chicago Title Insurance, Fidelity National Insurance and agents of both companies.
Insurance Commissioner Marcy Morrison says the companies made errors in calculating rates, and that Chicago Title charged fees for services that had not been filed with the Division of Insurance.
She says consumers who used the two companies in 2007 and early 2008 can expect refunds ranging from $25 to $1,500.
Morrison says Chicago Title will refund $266,000, Chicago Title agents $115,000 and Fidelity National and its agents $12,500.
