DENVER—University of Denver defenseman Patrick Mullen has signed a 2-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Mullen, 22, recorded 20 goals and 61 assists in his four years with the Pioneers, who reached the NCAA tournament with a 23-12-5 record this season but were eliminated last weekend. He was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team in 2007 and 2009.

Mullen?s father, Joey, played for St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Calgary and Boston in the NHL. He was the first U.S.-born hockey player to score 500 goals and register 1,000 points.
