PUEBLO, Colo.—Prosecutors have filed additional charges against a Pueblo West man accused of raping and killing his 14-year-old neighbor.
Sixty-four-year-old Paul Wayne Stark was arrested last week in the March 29 strangulation death of Ashley Patterson.
The girl’s partially nude body was found inside a trash bag in a field near her home. Her hands were tied behind her back, and another plastic bag was over her head.
Prosecutors on Monday filed new felony charges against Stark: child abuse resulting in death and two counts of sexual assault on a child. He also faces two counts of first-degree murder.
Stark is being held at Pueblo County jail on $1 million bail. An affidavit says he denied the allegations and told investigators he didn’t see Ashley the day she disappeared.
