Bobby Moyer of Aspen, Julia Cooper of Steamboat Springs and Katharine Irwin of Vail are three of 18 skiers named to the U.S. squad for the Whistler Cup, an international competition for ages 11-14 at Whistler Blackcomb Resort in British Columbia this weekend.

Over 390 athletes from an estimated 17 countries are expected to compete.

Mammoth creates award.

The Colorado Mammoth will honor the top youth lacrosse coach with a coach of the year award, presented to those who exemplify leadership, sportsmanship, passion and commitment.

The award will be presented in conjunction with the LaxFest and Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association national championship at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on May 16.

“Coaches are the foundation of lacrosse,” said Mammoth president and general manager Steve Govett, himself a local youth lacrosse coach. “They provide many children with opportunities the kids wouldn’t otherwise have.”

14ers in waiting game.

The Colorado 14ers have a chance to rest their players while waiting to find out who their playoff opponent will be after clinching the NBA Development League Southwest Division title with a 129-121 win over the Albuquerque Thunderbirds at the Broomfield Event Center on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, the 14ers set a single-game scoring record with a 155-129 win over the Thunderbirds in their home finale. Colorado breaks its own record of 147, set earlier this season against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers

It’s the first division title for the 14ers in their three-year history.

CU’s Cyr gets invite.

University of Colorado redshirt freshman Megan Cyr, a native of St. Andrews, Manitoba, is one of 56 volleyball players invited to try out for the Canadian senior women’s national team at its camp May 17-21.
