Federal stimulus money will fuel construction in metro Denver this summer.

38 Active highway and bridge construction projects the Colorado Department of Transportation expects to have underway, valued at a total of $234.4 million

Major projects

In addition to numerous road-resurfacing efforts, CDOT contractors will begin repairs to C-470 between Interstate 25 and South Santa Fe Drive, replacement of the 104th Avenue bridge over I-25 and reconstruction of Hampden Avenue and three bridges that cross Hampden between Kipling Street and Federal Boulevard.

CDOT officials urged motorists to slow down and take care when traveling through the numerous cone zones that will delineate the construction projects.

There were 13 fatalities in Colorado work zones in 2006, including two CDOT employees, and 11 fatalities in 2007. Figures for 2008 are not yet available.
