Denver Post staff writer Neil H. Devlin looks ahead at this week’s action:
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Regis’ reign to be recognized today
Regis’ girls basketball team will be honored at an assembly today at 10:15 a.m. for winning the Class 5A state championship and finishing with a national ranking.
The Raiders will be presented with a national ranking trophy by the Army National Guard, partner with the MaxPreps Tour of Champions.
Regis, which won its last 15 games of the 2008-09 season to finish 24-4, ended 19th nationally. The Raiders were 101-11 the past four seasons.
TRACK AND FIELD
Nice days ahead?
Will we finally get a break in the weather?
Hopefully, we will, so it’s time to get into the better track and field meets of the season.
One will be Saturday, when Mullen hosts its top-flight Runners Roost.
With a lineup as good as any on the regular circuit, even the early morning will have a series of top finals lasting into the afternoon.
BOYS LACROSSE
Rivalry time
The Mullen-Regis feud will borrow the pitch from the University of Denver, where the two parochial teams will meet Saturday at noon.
BASEBALL
Front Range feature
One you want to see on the diamond takes place Saturday, when two-time defending Class 5A champion Rocky Mountain (Fort Collins) will visit Fairview in Boulder. In the Front Range League, it’s one that should figure heavily into who becomes top dog.
GIRLS SOCCER
City vs. suburbs
The regular league rotations are in order, but what could be interesting in nonleague is scheduled for Friday, 4:30 p.m., at Chatfield, where the Jefferson County Chargers will welcome the city’s East.
