Hopefully the champagne’s ice hasn’t melted. The Nuggets have been waiting four nights now to clinch the Northwest Division title, but the Trail Blazers can’t seem to lose.
Portland won again Saturday, its third win in four nights, and if it lost any of those, Denver would have clinched the division title. The magic number remains one — either a Nuggets win or a Trail Blazers loss.
The Nuggets (53-27) not only are trying to win their sixth NBA division title, they have two games left in which to tie or break the franchise record for NBA wins — 54, set in 1987-88.
