Curtis Allen, who operates a 4,200-acre ranch in the Ohio Creek Valley north of Gunnison, will be the first landowner in Colorado to participate in a voluntary program to preserve the Gunnison sage grouse.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife has been working closely with landowners in the Gunnison Basin in association with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to implement conservation measures. Landowners who participate in the program receive assurance that no further land-use restrictions will be imposed on their property — even if the birds are listed as a threatened or endangered species.
Open for boating.
Elevenmile and Spinney reservoirs now are open to boats launched from trailers. The north shore ramps are open at Elevenmile; the Witcher’s Cove ramp is expected to open in the near future. Both sites are subject to inspection for zebra mussels. Neighboring Antero Reservoir will not be open to inspection until May 1. Meanwhile, all hand- launched craft may be used at any of the South Park locations.
